Homemade Cleaners Continued...
Here are a few more tried-and-true cleaners, courtesy of a Taste of Home magazine insert:
Carpet Freshener: Mix baking soda with cinnamon and sprinkle on carpets. Wait 15 minutes, then vacuum. (I have tried this and it works great!)
Mirror Cleaner: Clean with canned shaving cream (not gel) for a streak-free finish.
Scuff Mark Cleaner: Apply toothpaste to an old toothbrush. Scrub, then wipe clean with a cloth. (We also use a pencil eraser at our house for black scuff marks.)
Shower Door Cleaner (For Glass Doors): Clean doors thoroughly. Then wipe with baby oil on a soft cloth. The oil will prevent soap scum and hard water spots for months! (I have done this and can attest to it...it keeps them clean forever!)

No Meal Plan Monday
This week we will not be having a meal plan as I am highly involved in our church's "Deep Sea Adventure" and won't be home most of the week.
We will have good breakfasts though of: bagels, eggs, smoothies, and cereal.
Lunches will be: mac and cheese, buttery noodles, pb & j, and tuna salad.
Dinners will be on the run (or at the church). We'll see! :)

Cowboy Chow
Here's a new recipe for y'all to try!
Cowboy Chow
Mix together in large bowl:
1 can pork and beans, drained
1 can kidney beans, drained
1 can corn, drained
1 cup BBQ sauce
1 cup Pace picante sauce
2 T dried minced onion
1# turkey smoked sausage (I used Butterball)
Pour into 9x13 baking dish, cover with foil and bake 30-40 minutes in 350 oven.
OR, cook on high in crockpot for 3 hours.
I served this with cornbread cake (1 box cornbread mix + 1 box yellow cake mix baked together) and sliced cucumbers with ranch dressing. I had some happy cowboys and cowgirls here tonight!
Have you tried anything new lately?

Raising Homemakers
I found myself really encouraged after finding and reading this site. I have wanted to raise my daughter to enjoy her home, practice hospitality, and bless her family through her homemaking.
As a new bride, 11 years ago, I struggled with this so much! I resented my husband for "making messes," I couldn't cook anything that wasn't out of a box, and I found cleaning to be a horrible chore. After much research, some patient church friends who showed me the ropes, a great neighbor who shared recipes, and a lot of prayer, I am FINALLY finding homemaking to be enjoyable!
I also felt (for many reasons) that my homemaking was not a true "job"...that I would always strive to be something more, do something else. I don't want my daughter to feel like the "choice" of homemaking is her "only choice" or she is not as important as others who choose differently. I want her to soar in whatever she does, whether that be a career in the world or a career in the home!
I don't want my daughter to start out as frustrated as I, and I truly found this new website to be encouraging and a delight! I would encourage you to take a look and let me know your thoughts on the topic...

Yet Another Reason I Coupon...
Well, we've had storms. Tornado warnings, possible touchdowns, MAJOR lightening, trees uprooted, cement sidewalks obliterated, you name it, its in Licking County somewhere. We've also had major power outages.
Now, to clarify, for those of you who may be wondering, I live in town. On a major street. A street that is too busy to let my kids ride bikes in the driveway...
We completely lost power on Friday at around 5 pm (we had flickers before that though.) We just got power back (Sunday) this morning around 6 am. We lost about 5 grocery bags full of food. (However, our deep freezer stayed frozen!)
I was slighly stressed about pitching food, when my dear husband held up some thawed food and said, "How much did you pay for this?" I breathed a sigh of relief when I realized the answer was .25! I probably threw away a hundred dollars of food, but knowing the way I shop, probably paid only $20-30 for it!!! That, in itself, made me feel soooo much better.
I was also able to go to my stockpile and replace all condiments except mayo. Yes, we now have a fully stocked fridge of mustard, ketchup, relish, salad dressings, and the like. That also felt really good.
I am not stressed anymore about the wasted food. I know that I can replace it for pennies on the dollar. AND, we have MORE THAN ENOUGH in the stockpile to feed us for a few weeks.
Now I am stressed about the hail damage that the siding (and our cars) received, but that, my friends, is a whole 'nother story!

For those of you who don't know, Rt 40 (aka National Road) is having a HUGE sale this weekend. You can literally drive through multiple states for this sale. We chose to drive from Hebron, OH to Zanesville, OH and back. (Most of the good sales though are right off the road on side streets or in small country towns.)
The kids and I spent about 4 hours out and had a truly good time. There were many sales that we just drove right by, but my kiddos are good "kids stuff spotters."

Always Learning...
So I was in Giant Eagle yesterday to pick up a gift card for my FIL's birthday (to get the gas points of course) and my jaw dropped when I saw this:
THEY HAD AN ENTIRE SECTION OF DISNEY GIFT CARDS!!!!!!
These could be used at the Disney store, online, or at the PARK! Are you kidding me??? Do you realize how much FREE gas we could have gotten if we bought those to use on our trip?
Just a thought, people, just a thought...
PS - They even had a 3 pack of $15 cards that could SO be used for souvenir money for the kiddos.
